Maximize the Holidays with these Healthy Living Tips

Ah December, this wonderful month is packed with family, friends, holidays, trips, and special memories. You’re likely just catching your breath from Thanksgiving and are now getting ready for a packed month of festivities. The tendency during this time of the year is to try to pack extra activities and chores into your day. You’re not alone in doing this, we all do it. And all of us end up feeling tired, stressed, run down and generally not our best. This seems to happen every year and every year we vow to change our ways so that we can truly enjoy the holiday season.
Well, this is the year that you’re going to discover how it is possible to feel your best and be your best during this busy time of the year. We’ve put together some tips and advice to help you get through the holidays with a smile on your face while avoiding the excessive fatigue, stress, and the dreaded December cold.

Follow Your Routine

You have a routine that has kept you feeling well and allowing you to get the most out of your days. Do your best to stick to this during this busy time of the year. If you normally go to the gym after work but are now finding this time must be spent running holiday errands, try to make an adjustment that allows you to get to the gym over your lunch hour or before work. Sticking to a health routine can help keep your immune system strong and healthy and could keep you feeling your best. While there will likely be many invitations for work lunches or after work parties, try to pick-and-choose the invitations you accept. Now, we don’t want you not to have any fun, but just think about your week and prioritize the social activities you want to accept. When your body is already taxed, any changes to your diet, sleep, and regular routine can wreak havoc on your immune system.
Of course, we do know that there will be weeks when you simply feel like you don’t have time to catch your breath and enjoy a few moments of normalcy. This is why we want to remind you to think of your immune system. When your immune system is weakened, you will most likely get sick. Not only is this holiday season, it’s also cold and flu season. For this reason, we want to remind you to take natural supplements like AHCC. Give your body a chance to stay ahead of the curve and be ready for the stress, changes, and germs that come with this time of the year. If you are generally in good health and want to keep your immune system strong and balanced, AHCC acts as an “insurance policy” against the bacteria, viruses, environmental toxins you can encounter at all the parties, events, and holiday festivals that can attack your immune system.

Travel Smart

Travel at this time of the year is practically unavoidable. If you find yourself at the airport getting ready for a flight across the country (or further), it helps to be prepared and ready. Bring extra water with you, because the humidity in the airplane is very low, the air gets dry – making it ideal for germs and bacteria. This dry air often results in your getting dehydrated, making you more susceptible to the germs and bacteria in this dry air. So, drink extra water to keep your mucous membranes moist so you can better keep these germs and viruses out of your body.
(Remember to pack some AHCC with you and take it as you normally would.) Don’t sit in your seat for your entire flight or train ride. Get up and walk around. This helps to prevent the swelling in your legs that can result in deep-vein thrombosis. As well, moving around gives you a chance to stretch out stiff muscles and to keep your back feeling limber.

Be Mindful

Pay attention to what you’re eating and drinking. It’s so easy during the holiday season to have “just one more treat.” When we do these every day or multiple times during the day, suddenly, we don’t feel that well. We’ve ended up eating more rich food and ignoring the healthful vegetables and fruits we normally eat. While we don’t want you to avoid all the treats available to you – simply decide to choose the ones that you really like. For example, if dessert is your thing, then forgo the cheese platters and rich appetizers so you can enjoy some extra pumpkin pie or other tasty dessert.
If you know you’ll be out at a party in the evening, make it a goal to eat regularly through-out the day – stick to your healthy breakfast, eat a lighter lunch, and then you’re free to enjoy the night out. It is the holidays after all and you deserve to relax and enjoy it, just remember how your body feels after a few days of rich and sugary foods.

Have Fun and Smile Often

It’s the holidays! Have some fun and share the joy of this time of the year with your loved ones. Smiling and having fun can do wonders for your health and well-being. When you smile, and are having a good time, those around you are more likely to do the same.
Laughter and smiling are great stress-relievers and help you truly enjoy this time of the year. The entire team at AHCC Research Association wishes you a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.
